WIDTIL - Jan.18/13

Recording is moving steadily along with 11 songs in the works. Working titles include The Hero And The Heel, The Guilt, Everybody Knows, Get Up, and Believe.

The track listing for Wither In Darkness/Thrive In Light will also feature two instrumentals and segues that help move the album from track to track.

A fairly literal album, the lyrics examine life’s ups and downs, experienced first person and through observation.

But for now, there’s still quite a bit of work to do. So I better get back to it.

A New Year...

2012 was certainly a rollercoaster ride of a year. Lots of ups and unfortunately, some downs. It might not have been the end of the world, but the Mayans were certainly correct about the dawning of a new age (if that’s how you choose to interpret it). I see 2013 as a year for rebuilding, growth and change.

I wouldn’t say I really have any resolutions, but I certainly have goals.

First and foremost, my focus is on my family. People come and go in life, but your family is (well, should be) here to stay. I have a terrific wife and an awesome son and couldn’t be more fortunate.

My next goal is to not worry about things I cannot control. Life is life and regardless of every inspirational quote out there about taking control of it, you have to face facts… you can’t control everything. But you can control how you deal with things and how much you let things affect you.

Lastly, my goal is to finish the songs I’ve been working on for the last year and put out an album I’m truly proud of from front to back. If other people like it too, that would be pretty cool. There is certainly a finish line in sight, with a couple songs ready for mixing and a few with only a couple tracks left to redo. Ya, there are a few more that still require some time, but I’m pretty confident I can finish everything up in the spring.

I wish everyone who reads this all the best in 2013 and beyond.

Why am I blogging?

Because I hate Facebook.

There’s too much going on. Too much to see. Too many people who don’t care at all about anything but the stuff they’re posting. Yet, LIKE everything… because that’s what you’re supposed to do. On top of that, Facebook itself has made it impossible for bands and other page owners to reach their ENITRE (supposed) audience without paying a promotion fee. No thanks. So I’m doing my best to reach out in other ways. Nobody really blogs anymore. But I have a feeling anyone who really cares what Nikki Ninedoors is up to, will actually read these posts. And to me, two people who REALLY get into my music, is better than 100 likes on Facebook. I guess we’ll see.

Wither In Darkness/Thrive In Light

Last December, Part II of Unapologetically Pop finally hit the store shelves (or the backseat of my car, ready to be handed out when any interest presents itself). Since that time, a whole new batch of songs and partly-written ideas have been in the works. A year later, these songs are still not ready to go. Ya, a little bit lazy, but also, working hard to learn the recording craft a bit better. I already know I like the songs (and know they are some of the best songs I’ve ever written). But hopefully taking some extra time on the overall production and songwriting will gain me a few likes from others. If not, that’s cool too.
